Maxine L. Durnin, 88, of Waterloo, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook.
She was born on December 4, 1935, in Shell Rock, daughter of Clyde C. and Lillian I. Lahman Eygaboard. Maxine married Kenneth I. Durnin on April 26, 1953, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2009.
Maxine worked at Western Home Communities for several years, retiring in 2010. She owned and operated a bakery in Marshalltown for a few years. She also worked other various jobs at Aramark, in the cafeteria at John Deere, Bishop's, Kmart, and babysitting.
She was a Jehovah's Witness and attended meetings at Kingdom Hall. Maxine enjoyed watching Westerns and John Wayne. Mike made her an ugly stick which helped teach the grandchildren important lessons.
Maxine is survived by her children Janet Riley of Waterloo, Michael (Cindy) Durnin of Marshalltown, and Pam (Scott) Sellers of Reinbeck; seven grandchildren, Michael Young, Nicole (Mike) Young-Denton, Charles (Becky) Durnin, Kendra (Tim) Skyles, Shannon (Valerie) Cotton, Stephanie (Ian) Boulden, and Drema (Dan) Lopez; 13 great-grandchildren, Isaiah Denton, Shianne Denton, Alexander Lopez, Savanna Lopez, Danielle Durnin, Callie Durnin, Caleb Durnin, Shelby (Cole) West, Cody Skyles, Christopher Skyles, Jacob Skyles, Audery Delagardelle, and Adrianna Boulden; and three great-great-grandchildren, Thea Skyles, Elliott West, and Emmersyn West.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Durnin; sisters, Doris Ostlie, Elizabeth "Betty" Ala, Bonnie Manthey, and Virginia Snyder; and an infant brother, Robert Eygabroad.
Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Friday, August 16, 2024 at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at Locke at Tower Park, Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Westbrook Acres Nursing Home.
