Mark A. Krause of Cedar Falls, IA, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 18, 2024, after passing unexpectedly of an aneurysm. He was 68 years old. He was a beloved husband and father and a Christian.
Mark was born June 16, 1956, in Arlington, VA, to Emily (Moore) and Stanley Krause. He was raised in Virginia also living in Ghana and Brazil when the family was stationed there. The family took frequent trips to Kansas and Minnesota to visit family. Mark had great memories of summers farming in Kansas with the Krause family and of his days working in the Kansas agricultural extension service. Mark was a lifelong learner who enjoyed new challenges. He achieved a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State and had a varied and interesting career. The last two decades were with John Deere in their various locations, most recently in Cedar Falls.
Mark met his wife, Joyce, in graduate school and they were married October 10, 1992, in Fargo, ND, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They lived in various places as Mark's career unfolded. Before Mark's transfer to Cedar Falls, the couple had lived in Johnston, IA, for many years and raised their children there. They are members of the Lutheran Church of Hope.
Mark loved being a father. With the family grown his favorite activity was to visit them to celebrate holidays and their life milestones. He loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with his family. He had many interests: biking, running, reading, music, keeping up with old friends, especially from his college and Peace Corp days, and taking on new projects. His latest project was building a cabin with Joyce in Minnesota.
Mark is survived by his wife, Joyce Krause, the couple's children: Jenna Krause of Chicago, IL, Carl of Bozeman, MT, Elissa (Jeremy) of Mesa, AZ, Henric of Denver, CO, and Travis of Sacramento, CA, and his sisters, Karen (Mike) Bergman of Colorado, and Gail (Andrew) Angel of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark will be greatly missed.
A family celebration of life is planned for later this summer. Memorials may be directed to the family.
