Condolences

My condolences to Cheryl's sisters, Kathy & Pam, her friend, Linda, & all her family & friends. Cheryl & I have been friends since the 1980's when I was a Pastoral Associate at Holy Trinity Parish in Des Moines, IA. Cheryl was a parishioner. We were members of the parish Peace and Justice Committee. Cheryl eventually became Chair of the committee. Cheryl had a deep concern about the danger of a proliferation of nuclear weapons & we both participated in demonstrations advocating nuclear arms treaties. We kept in touch over the years. She was a compassionate, caring, & faithful friend. I will miss her. I trust she is enjoying a wondrous new life with God.

Sr. Carlotta Oberzut, RSM

I miss Cheryl terribly. She and I talked on the phone nearly every weekend. Over the past week, since I found out she left this earth, I've found myself thinking "I can't wait to tell Cheryl about that" or "Wonder what Cheryl will say about that". Cheryl was always encouraging and compassionate. She loved with her whole heart and shared her love with all who knew her. I hadn't seen Cheryl in some time, in part due to Covid, but had traveled from Michigan to Iowa many times to spend time with her. Her love and care for the marginalized was evident in her involvement in the Catholic Worker. She had a wonderful love for animals and thoroughly enjoyed her cats, even the feral cats in her neighborhood. Cheryl and I shared some life experiences that others would not likely understand and she was a great support to me for many years. I will miss Cheryl's wit and laughter, her understanding and passion for life. Rest in peace, Cheryl, my dear friend. Love you always.

I’m so glad I messaged her a few weeks ago out of the blue. Reminder life is short, until we meet again Aunt Cheryl ❤️‍🩹

Elena Davis

I’m sorry to hear about this. It is always painful to realize that we’ve lost one of our own. It sounds like Cheryl made a career of being good to those who might not otherwise receive positive feedback. At age 73, I’m still learning.
