William J. "Bill" Fleck, 78, of La Porte City, died Friday, March 8, 2024, at his home.

He was born January 25, 1946, in Waterloo, son of William C. "Bill" and Dorothy M. (Holland) Fleck. He graduated from La Porte City High School in 1964 and served in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He married Dianne Mohr (Rager) January 22, 1966; they later divorced. He then married Barbara Stern December 28, 1974, in Waterloo; she preceded him in death April 9, 2007.

Bill was a forklift driver for John Deere at the downtown site for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He also farmed his land for many years. He was a member of UAW Local 838 and the La Porte City American Legion Post #207 USS San Diego.

He is survived by his two children, Paula (Ron) Gourley of Cedar Rapids, and Trent Fleck of La Porte City; four stepchildren, Eric (Lisa) Buck of Independence, Boyd (Roxanne) Buck of Cedar Rapids, Loraina (Gary) Krop of La Porte City, and Toby Buck of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Jeremy, Lucus, Zoie, Jarrett, Trevor, and Noelle; and many great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and wife; and a stepson, Lowell Buck.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Locke in La Porte City, 606 E. Main Street, La Porte City. A private family graveside service will be held at West View Cemetery in La Porte City where military honors will be conducted by Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Honor Guard.
