Patty L. Batchelder, 84, of La Porte City, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at her home.

She was born on November 30, 1940, in Waterloo, daughter of Russell and Virginia Stafford Allison. Patty graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1959. She earned her LPN from Allen School of Nursing. Patty married Roger Batchelder on September 23, 1961, at Central Christian Church in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on February 12, 2019.

Patty worked as a nurse for 47 years and over 20 of those years were caring for the residents at Colonial Manor Care Center (now LPC Specialty Care). She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City where she was involved on many committees. She and Roger both earned black belts in Karate.

Patty loved her family and home! Roger and Patty together designed and built it from concrete and field stone. Her home is where she raised goats and chickens. She lived holistically tending to her gardens and canning vegetables.

Patty is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Larry) Formanek of Ankeny, and Penny Clark of La Porte City; two sons, Jim (Jackie) Batchelder of La Porte City, and Matt Batchelder of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Doug), Michelle, Stephanie, Xavier, Joshua, Jacob (Rachel), Stevie, Tanner, Tyler, and Cassie; and one sister, Becky (Jack) Chappelle of Albuquerque, NM.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Marshall Platt; husband, Roger Batchelder; one daughter, Joanna Batchelder, an infant son, Mark Batchelder, and two sisters, Nancy Luhmann and Karen Howard.

Memorial Services: 10:30 am Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 501 Sycamore St, La Porte City, with inurnment in Orange Township Cemetery, rural Waterloo, where military honors recognizing Roger's military service will be conducted. Visitation for one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church. Locke La Porte City is assisting the family, 319-342-3131.
