Dennis E. "Dennie" Lovejoy, 78, of Dover, AR, formerly of La Porte City, IA, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville, AR. The son of James and Mary (Jones) Lovejoy, he was born October 1, 1943, in Boone, IA. Dennie married Leona Mae Pierce on February 14, 1962, in Independence, IA.
He was family-first oriented, a loving father and wonderful husband. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the U.S.S. Tanner and AGS-15. He retired as a machinist with John Deere for thirty years. Dennie and his wife owned Country Visions Woodcrafts. He was a member of the U.A.W., E.A.A., and the La Porte City Men's Golf Club.
Dennie enjoyed stock car racing, was a licensed pilot flying hobby aircraft, and an avid golfer. He was a Co-Creator of the current IMCA Modified Racing Class, where he helped build the first car and he built the second car "The Deuce." He spent many years driving, building motors, frames, chassis, go-carts, and multiple trailers. Several family generations in the racing community continuing the legacy today.
Survivors include his Wife, Leona "Lee" Lovejoy of Dover; Son, Victor "Vic" (Michelle) Lovejoy of Ankeny, IA; daughter, Kimberly "Kimm" (Casey) Bumgarner of Des Moines, IA; Nine Grandchildren, Brandi (Juston Morrow) Lovejoy of Waterloo, IA, Christine (Austin) Crane of Waterloo, IA, Angela Lovejoy of Hinton, IA, Holly (Chris) Hyda of Waverly, NE, Amanda (Doug) O'Neal of Council Bluffs, IA, Brett Mast of Waterloo, IA, Curtis (Mariah) Bumgarner of Waterloo, IA, Ashlee Olmstead of Tilden, NE, Alyssia (Austin Fiala) Lovejoy of Omaha, NE; Sister, Dixie (Bob) Kitchen of Peoria, AZ; Brother, Randy (Debbie) Miller of St. Louis, MO; Sisters, Sandi (Larry) Miller, and Sheryl (John) Killins, both Russellville, AR; and 8 Great-Grandchildren.
Dennie was preceded in death by his Parents; Daughter, Shelia Lovejoy; and Brother, Michael Lovejoy.
