Vergie Fredinel Hechavarria

Vergie "Deanna" Hechavarria, 63, of Waterloo, died Sunday April 28, 2024, at Harmony Waterloo. She was born August 17, 1960, in Waterloo, daughter of Fred and Vergie Lee (Nash) Mallett. She received an associate degree from Hawkeye Community College and worked as a marketing specialist in telemarketing.

Deana liked playing games on her phone, and word puzzles. Earlier in life she enjoyed fishing and bowling. She loved food and was a great cook. Deana also had a beautiful voice, once winning a regional contest singing Midnight Train to Georgia. She had been a member of Gift of Life Church.

She is survived by her sons: Antonio Hechavarria of Waterloo, Saturno Hechavarria of Frederick, Co, and DeMarious Mallett of Cedar Rapids; sisters: Dorothy Anthony, and Gloria Riley of Waterloo; brothers: Frederick Mallett Jr. and Wendell Mallett of Waterloo; grandchildren: Kinnick and Aaliyah Hechavarria, and Javien Mallett; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Vergie; sister, Judy Wise; nephew Rashawn F. Mallett; and several aunts and uncles.
