OBITUARY FOR: Velma J. DeSerano

Velma J. DeSerano, 95, of Waterloo, died on Friday, November 22, 2024. Velma was born on September 16, 1929 in Tripoli, the daughter of Keith and Lucinda (Spier) Ferson. She attended La Porte City elementary school and graduated from East High School in Waterloo.

Velma married Ward K. Speicher in 1949, he preceded in death in 1984, she then married Raymond K. DeSerano in 1992, he preceded her in death in 2017.

She worked at the Waterloo School System from 1962 ~ 1976, then for the State of Iowa as a Personnel and Finance Officer for the 1st Judicial District from 1976 until retirement in 1992. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Waterloo.

Velma is survived by: son, Steven (Marcia) Speicher of Waterloo; two daughters, Sandra (Frank) Bowman, and Linda (Kevin) Dallenbach all of Waterloo; two brothers, Gene (Mary) Ferson and Richard (Barb) Ferson; two sisters, Mary Billeaudeaux, and Mae Miller; five grandchildren, Nathan Dallenbach, William (Emily) Speicher, Katie (Jonathan) Wiest, Laura (Patrick) Osowski, and Carrie Garnett; eight great-grandchildren, Natalie, Claire, Lauryn, Grace Wiest, Alayna Hansen, Johnston and Campbell Osowski, and Aidan Garnett.

Velma is preceded in death by both of her husbands, Ward and Raymond; parents; and a brother, Ronald Ferson.

There will be a private family burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday December 28,2024 at 1pm at Grace Baptist Church in Waterloo.
