Tommy “Tom” R. Power, 78, of Tripoli, died on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Tom was born on May 9, 1947, in Waterloo, to Woodrow “Buck” and Iris (Christiansen) Power. He graduated from East High School in 1965. Tom married Betty Jean (Peverill) on July 25, 1968, in Tacoma, Washington. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Tom is a University of Northern Iowa graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He spent his career working as an Industrial and Environmental Engineer at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in 2001.

He was a member of Waterloo American Legion, Evansdale Amvets, EMT and CPR Instructor for Readlyn EMS, Black Hawk County Reserve Deputy, and former Commander for Waterloo Amvets Post #19.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, watching westerns (especially John Wayne), and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, UNI Panthers, and Indiana Fever.

Tom is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Julie (Jason) Hendrickson; son, Daniel (Samantha) Power; grandchildren, Jesse (Kelsey) Hendrickson, Kelsey (Troy) Irvin, Alexis Toll (Jimmy Hampton), Jordan Hendrickson (Jacob Farran), Gabrielle Power (Mason Malget), and Chandler Power; and great-grandchildren, Aleah, Jax, Tate, Jensen, Maribelle, Nora, Colton, Dakota, and Paisley; sister, Charlotte (Richard) Cose; sister-in-law, Linda Power and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Power; sister Susan Power and nephew, Christopher Cose.

Services: 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo.

Visitation: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park.

Burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the United States Army National Guard Honor Guard, Waterloo Becker-Chapman American Legion Post #138, and Waterloo Sullivan Brothers VFW Post #1623.
