Timothy M. Devine, affectionately known as Andy, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, surrounded by family at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
Andy was born August 15, 1955, in Harvey, IL, to Bernard and Rita (Riberdy) Devine. After graduating from Thorton Township High School in 1973, he earned an associate’s degree from Thorton Community College. He married Beth Ernd on December 5, 1976, in South Holland, IL, and they were preparing to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary later this year.
In 1976, Andy joined the PGA of America apprenticeship program, bringing him and Beth to Iowa. After holding various positions at golf courses across the state, they settled in Waterloo. Andy served 10 years as head golf professional at Sunnyside Country Club before taking the same role at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course, where he later retired.
Throughout his distinguished career, Andy was honored as Iowa PGA Teacher of the Year and Iowa PGA Golf Professional of the Year. A lifetime member of the PGA of America, he led the Iowa PGA section as president from 1995 to 1997. Committed to the profession and to developing aspiring golfers, he also taught at John Jacob’s Golf Schools in Florida, Arizona, and California.
Andy will be remembered as an advocate for adaptive golf who treasured his visit to Walter Reed Medical Center. Each year, he partnered with the Husome Strong Foundation and the Iowa Amputee Golf Association to share his love of the game with others.
Andy championed junior golf throughout Iowa and the Waterloo community. Passionate about making the sport accessible and affordable for young and aspiring players, he hosted events with PGA and Waterloo junior golf organizations.
True to his Illinois roots, Andy loved Chicago sports-except for the Cubs. An avid college football fan, he followed every fall Saturday’s lineups and point spreads. His family will miss hearing him cheer for the New York Jets and chant, “J-E-T-S!, JETS, JETS, JETS!”
Andy and Beth traveled the world, but his favorite trips were those shared with Beth, their daughters, and their families. A loving, devoted father known as “Batman”, he always had his cape ready whenever they needed him. A constant hero who never turned down a dance party featuring his favorite songs, Andy cherished good times with family and friends. He was the proudest Papa, supporting and cheering on his grandchildren in every endeavor and attending as many of their sporting and school events as possible, with a popcorn in hand. Amongst all of his accomplishments, marrying his high school sweetheart, Beth, was his greatest.
When Andy retired in 2019, he received a donated kidney, a selfless gift for which he and his family remain forever grateful.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Patrick “Andy” Devine.
Andy is survived by his wife, Beth Devine of Waterloo; daughters, Katie (Michael) Landers of Waterloo and Amy (Drew) Meyers of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Ally and Andy Landers and Finn Meyers; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews; and his dog, Lily.

Love you, Andy. Was so sorry to hear of his passing . Beth and family my prayers are with you. I worked for Andy at Irv Warren golf course and loved it will never forget you.
Andy was the best golf professional I had the good fortune to work with. Ran a great pro shop and delivered excellent member services. He worked harder on my game than I did. But, taught my son the game and his game turned out to be pretty good.
Very sorry to learn of Andy’s passing. He was truly a good all-around guy who will truly be missed by many.
So sorry to hear of Andy’s passing. Great memories of him at the Waterloo Open! Over the years, I was fortunate to be able to take a couple of golf lessons from Andy and I can still hear his wise words when I swing my clubs today. What a Great teacher and man he was.
RIP Andy. wonderful memories working for you at Sunnyside Counrty Club. Love and prayers to Beth, Katie and Amy and family.
Dear Beth and Family So sorry to hear of Andy’s passing. I have thought of him and your family almost every time I go out to the golf course. I feel a huge emptiness tonight. Love you and your family
Andy was a great guy. Loved working with him at the VGM Heartland Golf Tournament. He was always very professional. He also was a great golf instructor. The community will miss him. God bless the family during this difficult time!🙏🙏
As a friend of Andy and his family ever since they arrived in Waterloo, I don’t know anyone that didn’t love and respect him. He was kind, caring and a very cherished member of his chosen profession. A true gentleman in a gentleman’s game. God chose to bring home one of his good ones. Rest In Peace, my friend. You will be missed by me and many. God bless you.
So sorry to hear of Andy’s passing! Thinking of your family and sending prayers. 🙏

Beth, Katie, Amy and families.
Andy was such a joy to be around. Will miss him on Ridgemont Road. His laugh was so memorable and he did resemble George Clooney. Our deepest sympathy.
Andy was an amazing man. I appreciated every time we were together, sponsored an event at the course, showed up with guests, and how dedicated to serving people he was! He taught countless kids to golf, hosted hundreds of tournaments, and gave his skills selflessly to most anyone who needed help. He was one of the best ambassadors of Waterloo and the Cedar Valley! Prayers to Beth and the entire family during this difficult time!
I am so sorry to hear of Andy‘s passing. He was one of the best people at a Waterloo golf course. I never felt he discriminated between guys and gals when it came to Golf he was extremely patient. He was a good guy. He will be so missed. I don’t know anyone that didn’t like him and his patience and understanding of all types of golfers rest in peace handy. From. Karla Harn
Beth and family, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. What a great guy Andy was, always with a friendly smile for all.
I had the pleasure of knowing Andy shortly after he arrived at Irv Warren. He was always a positive person and seemed to know everyone by name when they walked in the pro shop. I would always remind people of his ability to play the game from both sides of the ball. Anyone who plays golf knows how accomplished that is. My sincerest condolences to his entire family. He will truly be missed by the entire Cedar Valley golf community.
Beth, Kate & Amy
Life will be so different now with Andy not here to share all of our adventures on the street~ he was truly a great guy and a heck of a Irishman 🍀 We will all hold our memories close, we all became friends when our Brooke was just a couple of weeks old, I can still see him pulling up in the driveway way and taking her for ice cream after a long day on the course, he would buy her anything but “bottle water” lol~ we are just a few feet away if you need anything. Love you all🙏
Andy was always gentleman and hell of person to meet. He got me started playing golf in my late age and got me hooked. He always had time for questions or show me what I’m doing wrong now. He will be missed on the courses.
Terry and I send our dearest condolences to you Beth and your family. Andy was always a fun and talented assistant with Bob in Ottumwa. He will be so missed. Coleen and Terry Denefe
Beth and family, Our sincere condolences to you and your family! I truly enjoyed having Andy as the fellow professional in Mason City with me. I had great times driving together going to Monday events and our conversations concerning our membership issues. Our prayers are with you all!

My deepest sympathies to Beth and the entire Devine family. Andy was an all-around great guy and one of the most outstanding PGA Professionals in our business. We played a lot of golf together and had some awesome competitions between Sunnyside, Elmwood CC, Des Moines Golf & CC and Cedar Rapids CC. The four golf professionals in this competition truly enjoyed ourselves, but I think the real winners were the members who we brought together for these memorable events. Andy was a perfect host, as always.
Beth and family Steve and I send our condolences! RIP Andy! Sending hugs and prayers to you at this difficult time! 🙏🏼♥️ Steve and Linda Overstreet
My deep condolences to Beth and family. I enjoyed working with Andy over the many years he served as Head Golf Professional at Irv Warren. He was a true gentleman and great partner with the City of Waterloo. He championed Waterloo Golf in so many ways! Irv Warren Golf Course and Waterloo’s golfing community will bear his signature well into the future.
Our sincere condolences to Beth and family. Andy was a wonderful man and a great PGA Professional who advanced the careers of many PGA Pros who worked for him and who served with him in the PGA. There is no telling how many young people he helped throughout his teaching career. His warm smile and easy going manner will be missed!
The golf world and particularly that of Waterloo has lost a true gentleman of our game. My father Fred and I loved visiting with Andy. Dad thought so much of Andy.
I’m sure Dad greeted him on the first tee on the best golf course in heaven.
Good bless the whole family and may the Lords peace be with you and may he hold Andy close in his loving arms.

Beth & family,
My thoughts, prayers and sympathy to you and your family. I always enjoyed talking to Andy when I was at Byrnes. He always had a smile and was so easy to talk to. He impacted many people in the Waterloo community and he will be missed. May your wonderful memories of him help you get through this difficult time. God bless,
Andy recruited me back to Mason City Country Club while we jogged at the YMCA one winter. Amazing teacher who would often drop a ball while we played & say “hit it again” Best to Beth & girls

Andy was an institution at Irv Warren for as long as I can remember. Always a smile on his face willing to lend a kind word or an ear. After retirement I’d occasionally see Andy, typically being the proud Papa supporting his grandchildren. Condolences to the family. Andy was one of the ‘good ones’.
Andy was a great supporter for High School golf when I was at Waterloo West High School. He was a good leader for our Youth.
… it’s funny how lives are touched as the years go by. I remember the Divine’s moving to Waterloo and meeting Katie, her mom Beth (Kingsley School), family, then Andy; hardworking golf professional at Irv Warren then SS and beyond.
I was always impressed in how Andy was a professional with adults as well as children wanting to learn “the game”…Thank you and Blessings to the Devine Family
Beth,
I am so sorry to hear of Andy’s passing. We spent so much time together in our teens. We attended Ascension grade school and Thornton High School together, we caddied together, we went to Raceway Park four nights a week, and golfed on Thornton Community College’s golf team. I stood up in your wedding.
I’m glad we reconnected at his brother’s wake. We just picked up where our friendship left off. And then we texted each other after that sharing old times. He was a true friend.
