Theodore “Ted” Joseph Joseph Schaefer

Theodore “Ted” Joseph Schaefer, 51, of La Porte City, died Monday, June 9, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 14, 1974, in Waterloo, the son of Theodore Michael Schaefer and Paula Ray Hildman. He was a 1992 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and attended Kirkwood Community College.

Ted was united in marriage to Bridget Ann Stanerson on May 9, 1998, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Jocelyn and Madison. They later divorced.

He worked as a delivery driver for FedEx and spent several years at Grainger Industrial Supply.

Ted was an avid wrestling fan and a stock car racing spectator. Ted also had a deep passion for fishing and outdoor activities. His greatest love, however, was his two daughters. He cherished every moment spent with them, from taking them on adventures to bike riding on the trails. Ted had a unique talent for coming up with simple, fun ideas that made it easy for everyone-family, friends, and anyone in between to feel welcome.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jocelyn (Beau) Crawford of Marengo and Madison (Matthew Richards) Schaefer of Conroy; his maternal grandmother, Wilma Gilbert of Waterloo; his father, Ted M. Schaefer of Waterloo, his mother, Paula (Dennis Rogers) Hildman of Waterloo; a brother, Seth Schaefer of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Brody, Weston and Emmersyn Crawford.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rita and Merle Peters, and Joseph H. Schaefer; his maternal grandfather, John L. Hildman.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Waterloo, Iowa 50701.

Memorials may be directed to the family, where a memorial fund will be established.
