Ted R. Laing, 89, of Waterloo, died at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday, April 13, 2009. He was born October 31, 1919 in Belvidere, IL, son of Vayle and Winifred Marvin Laing.

Ted married Lucille Beran on December 5, 1943 in San Diego, CA, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.

He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and served as a carrier based pilot during WWII. He received his BA degree from the University of Iowa in 1948. Ted worked as an industrial engineer at Rath Packing Co. until retiring in 1982.

Ted loved family, golfing, picnics, and taking family vacations. He coached football at St. Edwards School. He was a member of Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus.

Ted is survived by his wife Lucille of Waterloo, IA; son James (JoAnn) Laing of La Jolla, CA; daughter Linda (Wally) Narins of Rice Lake, WI; daughter Cathy (Doug) Brace of Waterloo, IA; son John (Denise) Laing of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: Sean Laing, Shannon (Nick) Alford and their children Ella and Finley, and Andrew Laing, all of La Jolla, CA; Katrina (Dennis) Auth and their children Aiden, Lucy and William of Pensacola, FL, Christopher Narins (special friend Page Haswell) of Crystal, MN, Markus (Mackenzie) Narins of Medina, MN; Patrick Brace of Anthem, AZ, Jeffrey (Annie) Brace of Anchorage, AK and their children Eliza and Cooper, and Angela Brace (fiancé Jason Glynn) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Bryan Nelson of Redfield, IA and his daughter Brea, Brandon Laing and Brenton Laing of Blacksburg, VA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Jacqueline.
