Tammy Loftus, 64, of Waterloo, died July 22, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 5, 1961, in Waterloo, the daughter of George and Rachael (Rhea) Yuhouse. She graduated from West High in 1979 as female athlete of the year where she still holds records for 6 on 6 basketball.
Tammy married Mike Loftus on April 8, 1983, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. After attending beauty school, she continued to cut hair independently for all her friends and family throughout the years. She was a dedicated waitress at Steamboat Gardens for 20 years while also working at East High where she retired in 2020 as cafeteria manager.
Her greatest joys in life were spending family time with her husband, kids, grandkids, and grand kitten. They were the light of her life, and always her priority.
She had a love for playing pool, hanging out at the bonfire with friends, and playing volleyball. She was also a phenomenal cook and loved all her plants. She could grow anything! And everyone knows Tammy loved to dance! She lived her life with kindness and empathy, and you always knew Tam would cry with you!
Tammy is survived by her husband, Mike, and daughters Heather Bruess (Matt) of Janesville, Melanie Honn (Tyler) of Denver, and Jessica Loftus of Fort Collins, Co, grandchildren Quintin, Brooklyn, Nico and Shay Honn, and MJ and Bowen Bruess, brothers Gary Miller (Kathy) of Tracy Ca, and Mike Miller (Linda) of Sumner, and sister Pat Heller (Gary) of Denver, and many nieces and nephews she held dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers in law Pat Wardlow and Gary Heller.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, July 26, at Locke at Tower Park, with a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00PM at the funeral home. So sorry to read this. Tammy was a classmate of mine at West High, she always had a smile on her face and was a joy to be around. Hugs and prayers to her family. Her pain is over and has earned her angel wings🩷
It is with deepest and heartfelt condolences that we extend to Tammy’s family. Tammy and Mike were close friends of mine during their early days together and I would see them periodically on trips home to Waterloo over the years. Her spirit and inspiration will live on through all those who knew her.

Mike and family – I am so sorry for your loss. Tammy and I ran together for many years of our childhood. She always had a smile on her face. Played pool many times. Remember the monkey they had when she was younger.

Tammy and I grew up together as neighbors on the Cedar River in Cedar Terrace. She was like a big sister to me (big Tammy and little Tammi). She included me and watched over me with kindness and love, even though I’m sure I was a little annoying being four years younger. Water skiing on the river, riding in her car, the monkey that us neighborhood kids were afraid of hahaa, baby opossums, great memories. What a wonderful person and role model she was. Sending love and hugs to her family.
