Steven R. Kies, 61, of Waterloo, died at Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, on Monday, April 8, 2013, of a heart attack.

Steven Robert Kies was born December 15, 1951, in Waterloo, the son of Melvin and Donna Willer Kies. He grew up in Waterloo and graduated from West High School in 1970.

Following high school Steve joined the Navy and served from 1970 to 1976 including at sea aboard the USS Hancock and USS Ranger as an aviation electronic technician. Following the Navy service Steve attended Oklahoma State University and graduated from there with a Bachelor degree in Architecture.

Steve married Sharon Baskerville in 1994 in Richmond, Virginia; she died in 2004. He worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Richmond until retiring in 2009.

Steve is survived by his father Melvin of Waterloo; sister Katie (Bruce) Wickham of Waterloo; sister Susan Kies of Waterloo; sister Jean Marie Southworth of Waterloo; sister Leslie Kies of Phoenix, Arizona; step-son Wes (Cameron) Baskerville of Richmond; step-daughter Ashleigh (Chad) Cooke of Richmond; grandchildren Haley and Brayden; sister-in-law Diana Hurst of Richmond; two nephews: Nick Nenow of Waterloo and Elliott Pratt of Phoenix; three nieces: Erica (Julio Juarez) Pratt of Phoenix, Ashley Pratt of Phoenix, and Katie Lynn Southworth of Waterloo; and great nephew Maximo Juarez.

He was preceded in death by his mother and wife.
