Sherry Gayle Peters

Sherry G. Peters, 73, of Waterloo, died Saturday, February 24, 2024, at her home in Waterloo surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 28, 1950, in Waterloo, daughter of Lawrence "Larry" and Anona K. (Smith) Bates. She attended Columbus High School and obtained her nursing degree from Hawkeye Tech. She married Danny J. Peters on March 18, 1978, at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo; he died December 17, 2022.

Sherry was an LPN for many years and worked at several health care facilities, retiring from Western Home Communities in 2014. She was also a teacher's aide at St. Nick's Catholic School and was the school nurse at Columbus for some years. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Sherry loved spending time with family, friends and all of her dogs. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and going to the casino.

She is survived by her children, Angela (Michael) Wilken of Cedar Falls, Michelle (Joe) Wright of Raymond, Jennifer (Wade) Ross of Dunlap, IL, Danny Peters II of Germantown, WI, Ed Peters of Waterloo, and Aimee (Bryon) Irvine of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Adrianna), Nicholas, Kayla, Claire, Elijah (Benny), Isaiah, Mason (Amber), and Grant; four great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Luke, Olivia, and Benson; a brother, Michael (Karen) Bates of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a great-grandson, Alexander; two brothers, Timothy and Lawrence Jr., Bates; and a sister, Sharon Wolf.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. March 16, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.
