Sandra K Rand

Sandra K Rand, 73, of Elk Run Heights, died on Friday, December 30, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of natural causes. She was born February 20, 1949, in Waterloo, to her parents, Homer and Eileen (Oliphant) Pates. She grew up in Evansdale where she attended school. She worked various odd jobs before she began doing something she truly enjoyed, which was watching and caring for other's children; kids were always very important to Sandra.

On December 1, 1979, Sandra was united in marriage to Jerald "Jerry" Rand in Waterloo. After her marriage to Jerry, she stayed home, where she cared for her home and family.

She was a lover of all animals, raising exotic animals and birds; she at one time raised her beloved pet Cougar, Princess, and cared for her until she was old enough to be featured in big screen Hollywood movies. Sandra was also an avid dog lover, doting on her many furry companions she was lucky to have had throughout the years. She enjoyed shopping, which included antiquing and clothes shopping. To describe Sandra, strong, determined, generous, loving and kind are just a few words. She was firm in her convictions, strong in her faith, and loved fiercely. If love could have kept Sandra alive, she would have lived forever. She will be missed beyond measure, by her family and friends she leaves behind.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jerry of Elk Run Heights; son Troy (Sue) Robbins of Waterloo; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; daughter Carrie (Marv) Albert of Cedar Falls; sister Eunice Aschenbrenner and brother Duane Pates, both of Evansdale; sister-in-law Marlene Pates; many nieces and nephews.

She is welcomed in Heaven by her parents; siblings Betty (Lawrence) Wisecup, Jack (Diane) Pates, Dick (Ethyl) Pates and Don Pates; and sister-in-law Judy Pates.

The funeral service for Sandra will be held on Wednesday, January 4 at 11:00 AM at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St., Waterloo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
