Sammie Day, Jr. Jr.

Sammie Day, Jr., 88, died Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Pillar Place Care Facility in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born June 08, 1932, in Holmes County Mississippi son of Sammie Day, Sr. and Leora Weekly. He worked for John Deere Waterloo, Works for 32-years retiring on August 31, 1987. He was a 33rd-degree Mason which he was a dedicated member of for over 60-years, he was a member of St. John Lodge #35, and a freelance photographer some called ‘the picture man’. He was also a Korean War Army Veteran.

He married Minnie Pearl Evans in 1956, they were later divorced. He married Annie Louise Brooks in Mississippi on July 19, 1969.

Survived by: His wife, Annie Louise of Waterloo; two sons, David N. Day of Los Angeles CA and Perry K. (Val) Day of Waterloo, IA, two daughters, Sherrie L. (Rev. Rudy) Jones and Tina J. Day both of Waterloo, and a special grandson, Jaleel Manning, 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one sister, Ida Mae Brooks of Mississippi, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: His parents, one brother, Jimmie L. Day, Sr., one son, Johnnie R. Day and brother-in-law Willie Brooks.
