Ruth P. Hubbard, 96, of Rosewood Estate died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at her home. Ruth was born August 24, 1911 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Anna Marie (Lien) Christiansen.

Ruth married Eugene Milan Hubbard October 1, 1939 in Fergus Falls, MN. He died June 16, 1966. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1928 and then attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College for 3 years. Ruth graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1965.

Ruth taught in rural Minnesota schools prior to moving to Waterloo where she taught in Elk Run Heights for 21 years retiring in 1976.

She was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She was also a charter member of Sons of Norway and a member of the Iowa State Education Association and National Educational Association. She published articles in Creative Teacher magazine on school studies programs and creative writing in primary grades as well as other short stories.

Ruth is survived by two daughters: Karen Sharbo and her husband David of Park Rapids, MN and Barbara James of Castle Rock, CO. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren: Eric (Julie) Sharbo of Lakeville, MN and their children Jonathan and Emily; Peter (Lisa) Sharbo of Eagan, MN and their daughters Allyson and Serina; Amy (Cash) Hogsett of Castle Rock, CO and their daughter McKenna; and Kirsten Kaylor of Castle Rock, CO.

She is preceded in death by 4 sisters: Orpha Christiansen, Dorothy Mathison, Mabelle Burau, and Lola Dunn.
