Ruth Perman, 105, of Waterloo, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Friendship Village.
On September 27, 2024 my mother, Ruth L. Perman, celebrated her fifth year of being a centenarian, her 105th birthday. On August 26, 2025 she was called home to be with the Creator God of the Universe. It seems that however long one must prepare for the final call, those still living will always feel the brevity of life and feel unprepared for such event. She will be missed. The passing of a loved one is always a difficult time of transition. For Christians, believing in Christ’s salvation means that while the loss on earth is difficult, we know that eventually we will be reunited once we are all called to Heaven.
After graduating from the Trinity Hospital School of Nursing, Minot, North Dakota in 1940, Ruth moved to Waterloo, and married Horace Perman in 1942. She practiced nursing at Allen Hospital and helped take care of soldiers wounded during WWII. Later, she was employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing where she became the company nurse. While on duty one day she saved the life of a factory worker by administering cardiac massage and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. She was subsequently recognized by the National Safety Council in 1972 for saving a life. During retirement she enjoyed singing in the Kit & Kaboodle Band at various hospitals and nursing homes.
She has one son, Craig A Perman living in Colorado and is survived by sister Evelyne and brother Gene. She was preceded in death by her husband Horace and her sister Esther.
Services: 1:00pm Friday, August 29, 2025, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave, Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
