Rosalind J. Dietz, 80, of Elk Run Heights, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026, under hospice care at MercyOne Medical Center-Waterloo.
Rosalind was born on Marcy 21, 1946, in Newfoundland Province, to Maxwell and Gwendolyn (Sparkes) Rowsell. She earned her GED and moved to the United States in 1964, later becoming a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. Rosalind married Arlo Patterson in 1965, they later divorced. She later married Michael D. Dietz on June 18, 1994, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on March 26, 2026.
As the youngest daughter amongst her 9 other siblings, at a young age Rosalind grew to love fashion, being “dolled up”, and never left the house without her lipstick. Her love for fashion and accessorizing was reflected in her wardrobe and her role at JC Penney’s where she was a Sales Associate for many years prior to retirement.
Rosalind loved taking trips back home to Canada and was very proud of her heritage and following Canadian Sports. She loved the decorating for the holidays throughout the year, spending time with her family, and everything Elvis and Toby Keith. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Kevin, Doug, Ruby, Evelyn, Isabelle and Christina, and daughter-in-law, Janet Patterson.
Rosalind is survived by her sons, Derrick (Kellie) Patterson of Keystone and TJ (Rose Swingen) Patterson of Waterloo; step-daughters, Mary (Gene) Weigert of Cresco, IA, Cindy Dietz of Castalia, IA, and Sarah (Jeremy) Cook of Riverside, OH; siblings, Austin Rowsell, Eddie Rowsell, and Audrey Rowsell all of Canada; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephew, and cousins.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to Americans for Independent Living (AFIL).
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo.
Burial to take place at Garden of Memories-Waterloo at a later date

With heartfelt sorrow, we mourn the passing of my sister Rosalind. Rosalind and I grew up together in Terra Nova, Newfoundland. She was a very giving, loving thoughtful lady. We shared many good times singing and playing guitar. She loved music, loved to dance and loved her Canadian family as well as her US family. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. Fly with the angels my dear sister. I’m glad I got to say goodbye with a song. “There’s a Treasure in Heaven waiting there for me”. You’re now together with your heavenly family. Until we meet again. Rest in Peace.
As per your wish, we’ll be planting a tree in our back yard in your memory.

To my Dearest Aunt Rosalind:
There are few people who leave a lasting mark on your heart forever, and Aunt Rosalind was one of those people. She loved her family from Newfoundland, she loved her family here in the United States and she was devoted to her two sons, Derrick and TJ. I remember our last trip home to a family reunion in Newfoundland, and we got to share a room for that week, we would laugh and tell stories till all hours of the night. How I cherish those memories!!
She was elegant and took pride in wearing and surrounding herself with beautiful things. She had a gentle, kind, caring way about her. And her life was measured by the love she gave from her heart and the thoughtful gifts she gave to each and everyone she could. I am grateful for the times we had, our weekly conversations. She will always hold a special place in my heart, forever and ever.
May God bless my wonder Aunt Rosalind, her siblings, her family here in the states as we all come together to remember her and celebrate her life.
