Robert W. “Bob” Fisk, 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at Friendship Village. He was born April 30, 1921, in Alden, Iowa, son of John W. and Emma Wegner Fisk. His family moved to Waterloo when he was a small boy. At West Waterloo High School, Bob was on the rifle target shooting team and was graduated in 1939. He enlisted to enter WWII and served in the Army Air Corps, receiving an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Sergeant. He was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (currently the University of Northern Iowa) in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. He also attended Gates Business College, earning a business degree there.
He married Harriet Jung on June 1, 1947. Bob and Harriet raised a family and enjoyed many happy years of marriage, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends in June of 2007.
After college graduation, Bob joined Gates Business College as a salesman. Later, Bob joined Waterloo Metal and Mfg. Co. where he built his career, becoming vice president and co-owner. He retired from Waterloo Metal in 1986.
Bob was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church since the age of four, where, in addition to being an active member of the congregation for many years, he taught an Adult Bible Study class. He was a long-time member of the downtown Waterloo Rotary Club, at one time being their youngest member. He received recognition as an honorary lifetime member. He was also a member of the American Legion and of the Northeast Iowa Sports Car Club, where he and his British racing green 1958 Volvo won several awards. Bob was a life-long learner, studying and enjoying history, philosophy, religion, music, photography, and many other interests. In addition to being a “car nut,” Bob had a passion for golf, and he could often be seen at Byrnes Park Golf Course hitting shots to the pin with laser-like accuracy.
Bob is survived by his wife, Harriet; two sons, Clayton and his wife Linda of Buckingham, Iowa, and Brian and his wife Karen of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Boldon of Rochester, Minnesota, Ryan Fisk of Waverly, Iowa, and Marielle Fisk of Tampa, Florida; and three great-grandchildren, Aletha, Robert, and Alonzo Boldon. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Hershey.
