Robert H. “Bob” Versluis, age 77, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born February 5, 1937 in Waterloo, the son of Emil J. and Madeleine M. (Waerenberg) Versluis. Bob attended Jesup Schools. He married Carolyn M. Spece on March 25, 1960. They were later divorced. Bob married Mavis Lou Hopper on April 21, 1984 in Rock Springs, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2014.

Bob worked at the Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo for 24 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the United Packing House Workers and the United Auto Workers Unions. Bob was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1959-1962. He loved to spend time outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Sheryl A. Versluis of Independence, IA, Anita (Brian) Vanous of Quasqueton, IA, Annette Jurgensen and Angela Thurman, both of Waterloo; 2 stepsons, Arnold Phillis of Fredericksburg, IA and Anthony Phillis of Poplar Bluff, MO; 12 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Helen Fernau of Raymond, IA, Jean Welch, Jane (Ronald) Lickiss and Audrie Hahn, all of Oelwein; and 2 brothers, Ronald (Nancy) Versluis of Cedar Falls and Jim Versluis of Mesa, AZ.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mavis; 2 sisters, Grace Fernau and Frances “Fritzie” Meier and a brother, Tom Versluis.
