Robert Frank Henry, Sr.

Robert F. Henry, Sr., 77, of Evansdale, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo surrounded by his children.

He was born on June 26, 1946, in Waterloo, son of Donald and Ethel Makowsky Henry.

Robert served his country in the United States Navy. It was during his basic training that he was severely injured in an accident that left him with a lifetime of physical disabilities. Despite these disabilities Robert overcame and enjoyed a lifetime with his children and grandchildren. Robert was proud of his service to our country and continued to serve long after he was medically retired at the age of 17. He volunteered many years of his life ensuring other veterans made it to their appointments in Iowa City by driving the DAV van back and forth.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert (Bonnie) Henry, Jr. of Evansdale; daughters, Dawn (Scott) Van Tassell of Ekron, KY, and Jamie (John) Hoyt of Rogers, MN; eight grandchildren, Katie, Jackie, Ashtin, Billy, Kierstan, Jadynmarie, Jaina, and Jacen; six great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Wahl of Waterloo; and one brother, Dave (Mary) Henry of Adel.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Cody Ann Henry; son, Jason Henry; grandson, Johnathan Hoyt Jr.; and brother, Raymond Henry.

Funeral Services 11:00 AM, April 9, 2024, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Military honors by American Legion Becker Chapman Post 138, VFW Post 1623, and United States Naval Honor Guard.
