Ricky “Rick” Allen Thuesen, 78 of Cedar Falls, died August 26, 2026, at MercyOne Waterloo. He was born October 27, 1947, in Cedar Falls, IA the son of Adolph and Vivian (Larsen) Thuesen. He attended Lincoln Elementary School. The family then moved to Waterloo where Rick attended Logan Jr. High School and graduated from East High School in 1966. Rick graduated from Iowa State University in 1970 with a degree in accounting and earned his CPA license soon thereafter. He began his banking career at Waterloo Savings Bank in 1972 and retired from US bank in 2017 after a revered 45-year career. Rick was respected and loved by all who knew and worked with him.

He married Sarah Akers on August 4, 1986, at St Edward Catholic Church and left the following day for a Hawaiian honeymoon. Together, they enjoyed traveling, especially to Disney World, and spending time with family.

Rick is survived by his wife, Sarah of Cedar Falls; his son, Jeff (Ann Ashby) of Dallas, TX; and his daughter, Emily (Drew Dezort) of Burbank, CA; his nephew, Steve Cooley: nieces, Lynn Dickey, Stacey Buechler, and Tammy Thuesen; along with many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary; his sister, Shirley Cooley; his aunt and uncle, Donald and Evalena McCann; and nephew Mark Cooley.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be 4:00-6:30 pm, Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, followed by a Celebration of Life Service starting at 6:30 pm.
