Richard L. “Dick” Achey, 76 of Waterloo, died Wednesday July 10, 2019 at his home. He was born on June 24, 1943 in Waterloo, the son of Robert L. and Litha B. (Bagby) Achey. He graduated from Waterloo East High School with the class of 1961 and received his bachelor’s degree from Hyles-Anderson Baptist College in Crown Point, Indiana. He married Nira Anne Hazlet on August 18, 1963 in Waterloo.

Dick was the Pastor at Ridgeway Bethel Baptist Church in Waterloo where he had served his congregation since 1982. Dick treasured time he spent with family especially on trips to their cabin in Ely, Minnesota.

Survivors include: his wife Nira of Waterloo; two daughters, Karen Achey, and Linda (Steven) Swisher both of Waterloo; and three grandchildren Nathaniel, Nicholas, and Ashlee Swisher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother James Achey.

A family led memorial service will be held at a later date.
