February 6, 1943 December 12, 2022

Richard G. Arenholz, Richard G. Arenholz, 79 of Waterloo, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital. He was born on February 6, 1943, the son of George and Alberta (Testorff) Arenholz. He received his education from Orange Township School, graduating in the class of 1961. After high school, he attended Northeast Missouri State (Truman State), graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree with business administration and economics study.

In 1967, Richard was drafted into the United States Army, with a tour of duty in the Vietnam conflict, receiving the Commendation Medal, upon discharge.

On May 15, 1971, Richard was united to the love of his life, Patricia Van Cleave. The couple were blessed with two sons, Matthew, and Jason.

Richard obtained Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1981, which sparked a successful career. He began his long career in insurance, starting with Travelers Insurance Company in 1967, advancing to a supervisory position in the casualty property claim department. Richard then transitioned to insurance agency sales and service in 1976, eventually owning and operating with a partner with the Elliott-Hartman Agency in Waterloo. He later operated Transportation Insurance Services in Des Moines; fully retiring in 2017. One of Richard's greatest values was the opportunities and rewards provided by the insurance business and proud of the success the agencies achieved and his sons, succeeding him in the agency business. When Richard wasn't busy with his insurance career, he found time to be a valued board member at UnityPoint Allen Memorial Hospital and founder of the Loon Cup, at the Spooner Golf Club.

He relished being the amateur photographer who filled albums with pictures of family, travels, and experiences. Richard considered himself blessed by having the love of his life, Pat, and their 51-year marriage, spending time with his 5 grandsons. He had many special memories of family experiences at their property on Spooner Lake in Wisconsin.

Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia of Waterloo; sons Matthew (Ashley) Arenholz of Marion, IA, and Jason (Lisa) Arenholz of Waterloo; grandsons Maxwell and Jackson, Leland, Henry, and Theodore; sister Kathryn (John) Porter; stepsisters Terrie (Jerry) Dixon and Toni Andersen.
