Patricia “Patty” Kay Delagardelle

Patricia K. "Patty" Delagardelle (Jeffries), 72, passed away peacefully in La Porte City Specialty Care after a prolonged illness–she was loved by many.

Patty graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville '69 where she was Homecoming Queen. She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church where she crowned Mary during the May Crowning Celebration.

Patty attended Gates Business College earning a bookkeeping certificate to work in the family business. She married Michael Jeffries, after having 3 children they later divorced.

Patty was a humble, generous lady always giving everything she had to those she loved as well as strangers. She greeted everyone with a smile and a genuine "hello". Her customers at Gilbertville/Cedar River Milling became lifelong friends. She looked forward to making homemade sweets for her holiday open house to show them how much she loved and appreciated them. When she had her first brain tumor surgery, the cards and well wishes from her customers made her want to get back to work! They became family. Her hard work ethic started at a young age by becoming her dad's "right hand man" whom she idolized. Continuing her devotion to her dad, after his death she stepped up made sure her mom made it to Mass and family events.

As a mother and grandmother, she was exemplary. She was the best back scratcher, malt maker, or a steak cutter, and overall loving grandma. Everyone was welcomed to her holiday festivities.

She married Fred Wahl and when she would close shop on her business for the day, she would walk across the street to put in another 4-5 hours helping run Fast Freddie's in the old Gilbertville Depot. They also later divorced.

Some of her many accomplishments include serving on the Iowa State Extension Board, a Catholic Order of Foresters member, belonged to Prairie Rapids Audubon Society and was honored by Cedar Valley Arboretum as a volunteer. Her master gardening and knowledge of birds was highly sought after in the community.

Always giving and motherly, she will be laid to rest with her daughter, Jayme Jo Jeffries, who preceded her in death. Additionally, she is preceded in death by her loving parents, Gerald and Rosemary Delagardelle; brother, Tom Delagardelle; sister, Susie Tisue; and her ex-husband, Michael Jeffries.

Left behind without any more malts and scotcharoos made with love are her daughter, Amy Kohl of Iowa City; son, Jesse (Erin) Jeffries of Jesup; granddaughters, Brooklyn and Aubrey Kohl; grandsons, Keegynn Russell and Zander Jeffries; great grandson, Leo Pena (Brooklyn); brothers, Jerry (Kayse) Delagardelle, George (Jody) Delagardelle, Glenn Delagardelle; sisters, Peggy (Pat) Weber, Nancy (Joe) Meany, Mary Rose (Dan) McMahon, Chris (Mark) Kennedy; and brother-in-law, Dan Tisue.

Visitation will begin with the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville where she was a lifelong member. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to Funeral Mass. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Gilbertville.

Memorial contributions are suggested to three things Patty loved– her family, church, and the birds!
