Patricia “Jean” Bartels, 81, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 from injuries suffered in a car accident.
She was born June 13, 1930 in Dumont, Iowa, daughter of Glenn and Beryl Williams Kelley. Jean attended Hansell Consolidated Schools.
Jean married William “Bill” Bartels on November 15, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa; Bill died July 29, 2003.
She worked in the offices of Rath Packing Co. for a number of years; at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co.; John G. Miller Construction for 7 years; also St. Francis and Allen Hospitals; and later at E.D.S. and GMAC for 13 years as a data processor and receptionist, retiring in 1998. Jean and Bill had also owned and operated The Pizza Shack in Denver for 8 years until 1983. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.
She collected Thomas Kinkade Portraits of Grace and Style figurines. Jean enjoyed cross-stitch and needlework, making many lovely, framed pictures for her walls and for others. For many years, she and Bill went dancing… at the Electric Park Ballroom occasionally, but their favorite ballroom for dancing together was at The Riviera in Janesville.
Jean is survived by her sons: Richard of Oelwein, Iowa, and James of Center Point, Iowa; daughter Stacy of Oelwein; seven grandchildren; twelve great‑grandchildren; sister Helen Bandfield and her husband Greg of Manchester, Iowa; and brothers: Jack Kelley and his wife Edna of Hansell, Iowa, and Steve Kelley of Waterloo.
