Norma Joan Orum

Norma J. (Elliot) Orum, 84, of Waterloo, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She was born on November 17, 1939, in Waterloo, daughter of Walter G. and Juanita P. Penry Saveraid. Norma graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1958. She married James A. Elliott in 1958 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; they later divorced. Norma married Alva Manley Orum on May 12, 1978, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2022.

Norma worked as an office administrator at Rath Packing Co. beginning in 1960 until its closure. She then worked as an office administrator for Cedar Falls Community School District for many years, retiring in 2005.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waterloo, and former member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Norma was also a member and past president of the Waterloo Women’s Club. She liked to sew and make quilts. She had a wicked sense of humor.

Norma is survived by son, Kevin Elliott of Coralville; daughter, Becky Rossin of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Nick Rossin of Cedar Rapids, and Ashley Rossin of Waterloo; great-grandchild, Tristan Rossin; son-in-law, Todd Rossin of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, A. Manly Orum, and first husband, James A. Elliot; son, Barry James Elliot; three brothers, Wayne, LeRoy, and Palmer Saveraid; and sister, Juanita Kottman.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at First United Methodist Church-Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 PM Monday, April 15, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue, Waterloo.
