Norma Jean Izer

Norma Jean Crosby Izer, 79, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. She was born on November 4, 1942, the daughter of Cecil and Rose Mary Gallmeyer Crosby. Norma married Robert “Buck” Izer on February 27, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo and this union was blessed with five children.

Norma was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing bingo, and embroidery. Raising five kids was a challenge but Norma found ways to demonstrate love and compassion to the family. She is remembered as a good cook and a loving, caring, kind person. Yet, Norma was also very spunky and opinionated. It was not unusual to find Norma painting a house or even a fence, even if the fence especially wasn’t worth painting. She also loved her pet cats.

Norma is survived by her children, Robert (Sandy) Izer of Tingley, IA, Monica (Phil Suggs Jr.) Izer of Waterloo, Teresa (David Warner) Izer of Waterloo and Michael (Christina) Izer of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jerry Crosby; and brothers, Marvin, Lawrence and Lavern Smith.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Locke on 4th St., 1519 W. 4th St, Waterloo, at 10:30 AM with an hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo.
