Neil Eugene Benjamin

Neil E. Benjamin, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, February 9, 2026, at Wellspring Living Health Center of Friendship Village. He was born March 2, 1936, son of Dwight F. and Marjorie C. (Blackman) Benjamin. Neil graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954.

Neil married Janine Rae Bailey on May 14, 1960, at the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church; she preceded him in death on August 17, 2024. Neil worked at the Waterloo Waterworks for thirty-nine years, retiring in 2001.

Neil was a long-time member of the Trinity Episcopal Parish where he had been an active member serving in the church. He was a member of the Proud Image Barbershop Chorus. He and Janine love to travel and took many trips with friends from the chorus. Neil loved his family and spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his one daughter, Janell (Robert) Bergman of Maynard, two sons, David (Kim) Benjamin of Long Grove, IL, and Michael (Kari) Benjamin of Arlington Heights, IL; seven grandchildren, Bailey (Jesika) Bushman, Ben Bergman, Matthew Benjamin, Abigail Benjamin, Maxwell Benjamin, Lauren Benjamin, and Kathryn Benjamin; brother, Blair Benjamin; sister-in-law, Karen Benjamin; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Janine, parents, and brother, Keith Benjamin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Trinity Episcopal Church or the Friendship Village Auxiliary.

Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Trinity Episcopal Parish of Waterloo, 4535 Kimball Ave, Waterloo. Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
