Nancy Irene Volbruck

November 21, 1934 April 6, 2026

Nancy Irene Meiser Volbruck, 91, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Raymond, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at Oak Park Estates Assisted Living and Memory Care in Cedar Falls. She was born on November 21, 1934, in Waterloo, the daughter of Lewis and Gwenith Hills Carothers. She was a 1952 graduate of Waterloo East High School.

She married Thomas Meiser on April 25, 1952, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on August 11, 2004. She married John Volbruck on March 29, 2009, in Evansdale; he preceded her in death on March 20, 2026.

Nancy was a dedicated homemaker who also assisted on the family farm for many years.

She was a long-time member of First Reformed Church in Evansdale and New Beginnings Church in Waterloo (formerly 1st Wesleyan Church) and had also attended Faith Assembly of God Church in Elk Run Heights.

She was a former member of Black Hawk County Farm Bureau Women’s Group and Black Hawk County 4H. During high school, she played the clarinet, participated in the marching band, and taught Sunday School. She also happily volunteered, sang in the choir, served as Treasurer at First Reformed Church for many years, and loved decorating the tables for church activities.

Nancy had a real passion for art, especially drawing and painting. Ice skating was one of her favorite activities. She loved decorating cakes for her family and friends on special occasions, making each celebration a little more special. Holidays meant a lot to her; the family fondly remembers her decorating every inch of the house for Christmas. Christmas was her favorite time, and she really enjoyed making candies and baked goods to share. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making many afghans, scarves, and mittens over the years. She was also quite talented as a seamstress, sewing clothes and mending garments with care. Plus, she had a wonderful skill for reupholstering furniture, giving old pieces new life. Over the years, what she looked forward to most was coffee time with family on Tuesday mornings, and especially the cream-filled long johns.

She is survived by a son, Michael (Stormy) Meiser of Waterloo; a daughter, Michele (Matthew) French of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Melissa (Brendon) Hagarty of Gilbertville, David (Ashley) Meiser of Waterloo, Annie (Zachary) Parks of West Des Moines, Katie (Jacob) Perez of Bagley, WI, Nicholas (Callie) Schons of Arlington, VA; seven great-grandchildren, Gavin and Keaton Meiser, Braelynn and Xavier Hagarty, Arabella Eve Krause and Iva and Yuriah Perez.

Nancy is preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas; her second husband, John; her parents; daughter, Deborah Schons; grandson, Brandon Schons; brother, Kenneth Carothers; and three sisters, Judy Clue, Marilyn Oesterle, and Gwenith Arlene Carothers in infancy.

A Private family service will be held with interment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
