Murle Stanton Dietz Jr., 82, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, October 27, 2025, following a short, peaceful struggle with pancreatic cancer, and under the loving care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He was born on December 17, 1942, the son of Murle Dietz Sr. and Louise Bentley Dietz. Murle married Cynthia “Cindy” Beckman on December 17, 1961, at her parents’ home, and the couple was blessed with three children. He served in the US Army from 1961-1964, in Okinawa, Japan. Murle graduated from UNI with a degree in technical art and he worked for Hellman’s in Waterloo for many years until the computer changed the demand for his profession. Murle retired as a contractor for John Deere where he was a security guard.
Murle was a people person to the core. He could talk to anyone, not taking cues from them that maybe they were done talking with him. After all, he lived in Murle’s world. He was always in a hurry. Murle’s signature was his haircut, a bowl looking style that never changed since he was trying to look like Sonny Bono. He loved sweets, especially M&Ms, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, and most of all, his wife Cindy. He was an N-Gauge train hobbyist, and his trainset took up an entire room. Murle will be greatly missed.
Murle is survived by his children, Curtis Dietz of Cedar Falls and Michelle (Steve) Dietz-Merry of Cedar Falls; step grandchildren, Keenan Merry of Myrtle Beach, SC and Kayla Merry of Boston, MA; a brother Harold (Jacky) Dietz of Austin, MN; and many other family and friends. He was preceded by his wife, Cindy, a son Christopher Dietz, and his parents.
Funeral services for Murle will be Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Hammond Ave Brethren Church, 1604 Hammond Ave, Waterloo, with a time of visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.lockefuneralservices.com.
