Milton “Milt” Hall, 95, of Waterloo died at Friendship Village Retirement Center on Sunday, December 23, 2007, of natural causes.
He was born October 29, 1912, in Waterloo, the son of Charles and Louise Zimmer Hall. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1931 and then attended the University of Iowa for two years.
Milt married Nina Beebe Hadley on October 6, 1937, in New Hampton. They were married almost 65 years when she died September 26, 2002.
Milt was a Firefighter with the Waterloo Fire Department for 34 years and for many of those years was the fire station cook. He retired December 1, 1970, at the rank of Lieutenant. At the time of his death, he was the oldest surviving Waterloo Firefighter. After retirement, he worked for the Black Hawk County Assessor’s Office for the next seven years.
Milt was a member of the Wally Byam International Caravan (Airstream) Club and the last remaining charter member of the Northeast Iowa Camera Club. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of Grace United Methodist Church.
He was an avid bicyclist on the local trails. Milt was accomplished at needlepoint, and created many beautiful pieces which were proudly hung in his home or given away. He was also an expert cribbage and pinochle player and he enjoyed telling road stories from his many motor home trips across the country with his wife Nina.
He is survived by sister-in-law Helen Hadley of Waterloo, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Milt is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Leonard Hall.
Milt was friend to everyone and always ready to lend a helping hand. He left a life example to be imitated, and his memory will live on in his family and countless friends.
