Melissa Ann Mejia

Melissa Ann Mejia, 45, of Waterloo, died Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. She was born May 12, 1976, in California, the daughter of Charles and Cecilia Conry Meinders.

She married Melvin Fluhr on August 20, 2011; he preceded her in death on July 29, 2014. She married Fernando David Mejia, Sr. on July 15, 2018, in Independence.

Melissa was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, riding in the semi with her husband, and spending time with family and friends. There was no greater love than the love she had for her children.

Survived by: her parents, Charles and Cecilia Meinders, both of Waterloo; her husband, Fernando Sr. of Waterloo; four sons, Marshall and Tyler Hippen, Fernando Mejia Jr. and Romeo Mejia; four daughters, Sarah Hippen, LillyAnna, Isabella and Kyra Mejia; grandchildren; a brother, Chris Meinders of Cedar Falls; paternal grandmother, Barbara Meinders of Evansdale; uncles, Steven Meinders of Waterloo and David (Doris) Meinders of Meyersville, Maryland; and two special aunts, Faith Beebe of Waterloo and Beverly Schoby of Mason City, who helped raise her along with her grandma Barb.

Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Ellen Hippen in infancy; paternal grandfather, Richard Meinders; and her maternal grandparents, Cecil and Esther Conry.
