Maxine Margaret Stone

Maxine Stone, 99, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Friendship Village Wellspring. She was born May 12, 1924, in Waterloo, daughter of Chester and Hazel (Lawless) Stone. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1943, and received her BA in Elementary Education from UNI, with graduate studies at several Universities.

Maxine taught in Clinton, IA, Topeka, KS, Germany, and for 29 years at Irving Elementary. While at Irving she was also the Supervisor for Student Teachers with UNI for 18 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Waterloo since 1940, making two mission trips to Limba, Haiti. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter LO, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, State and National Education Associations, University Women, and the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her brother Paul (Karen) Stone of Fort Myers, Fl; nephews Dr. James (Catherine) Kelley, Michael (Frankie) Kelley, Bryan Stone, and Daniel Stone.

She was preceded by her parents, and sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Dr. John Kelley.

Services will take place Wednesday, April 17 at 2:00 PM, at Locke on Fourth, 1519 West 4th Street, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church Waterloo.
