Mary Francis, 95, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Denver Sunset Nursing Home of natural causes. She was born March 1, 1928, in Mercer County, Mo, daughter of Roy and Margaret (Thompson) Meinecke. She graduated from high school in Cainsville, Mo.

On May 18, 1945, she married Robert Louis Francis in Troy, Ks. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2014. Mary worked as a secretary in the Waterloo Community Schools for twenty-one and a half years before retiring in 1991. In her free time, she enjoyed bird watching, feeding the birds, gardening, and reading.

Mary is survived by her sons: David (Connie) Francis of Cedar Falls, and Dennis (Sandy) Francis of Evansdale; her daughter, Anita "Jean" (Dave) Kozloski of Fairbanks, AK; daughter-in-law DeeAnn Francis of Cedar Falls; son-in-law John Simpson of O'Fallon, MO; brothers: Bill (Judy) Meinecke of Fairbank, Ed Meinecke of Cainsville, MO; sisters: Marjorie (Leland) Parkhurst of Cainsville, MO, and Dixie Francis of Bethany, MO; eight grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Francis; daughter, Janet Simpson; grandchildren Christine Bennett and Marcus Cosby Jr.; brother, John Meinecke; sister, Helen Cain; and sister-in-law, Mary Meinecke.
