Martin McKay "Marty" Weeks, 65, of Milo, formerly of Hudson, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at UnityPoint Hospice – Taylor House in Des Moines due to complications from acute leukemia.
He was born in Grundy Center on October 24, 1959, son of Allen "Bud" and Geraldine (Paton) Weeks. Marty graduated from Hudson High School in 1978 and earned a degree in Farm Operations from Iowa State University in 1982. On April 9, 1983, he was united in marriage to Debbie S. Petersen at Grace United Methodist in Spencer.
Marty worked various jobs after college until he decided to attend paramedic school at the University of Iowa. He eventually joined Waterloo Fire Rescue, where he worked for 27 years. Marty retired as a lieutenant in August of 2018. Never one to sit still for long, he continued several "part time" jobs after his retirement.
He had a lot of passions in life but his biggest were hunting and fishing, supporting his kids and grandkids, and cooking, baking and trying out new recipes. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, which led Marty and Deb to move closer to their grandchildren after his retirement. Marty could strike up a conversation with anyone, turning strangers into friends.
Marty is survived by his wife, Debbie of Milo; daughter, Megan (Zeb) Birchette of Lacona; son, Allen (Molly McGraw) Weeks of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, James and Peyton Birchette; sisters, Dené (Jim) Lundberg of Floyd, and Nancy (John) McMillan of Aurora; brother, Spencer (Carla) Weeks of Vinton; and several brothers and sisters-in law and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
