Martha Jane Rudig was born on November 8, 1918, in Wabash, Indiana, to her parents Lloyd & Florence (Myers) Kelch. She grew up in Wabash where she attended school, graduating from Wabash High School in 1937.
On March 2, 1940, Martha was united in marriage to Dean Rudig; he preceded her in death in 2014. The couple were overjoyed to welcome their two children, son David and daughter Rebecca. Martha was a homemaker and was blessed to be able to care for her home and family for many years.
Martha was a member of the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, since 1951, where she led the toddler's Sunday School class, for 52 years. She also served as deaconess at the church.
In her younger years, she was a very talented seamstress. She also loved to travel whenever she got the chance. Martha was an avid reader, loved singing, especially to different hymns, and reading her Bible. She was funny, witty, strong in her faith, was a good listener and advisor, and was a wonderful, loving mother.
Martha is survived by her son David (June) Rudig pf Menominee Falls, WI and daughter Rebecca (Roy) Kern of Republic, MO; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: Alan (Stacy) Rudig and their children Tyler, Max and Tessa from Chilton, WI, Jennifer Rudig of Waco, TX and her children Caleb Miller of Minneapolis, MN and Jessica Ibes of Waco, TX, Rebecca Parkins and her children Henry and Lydia of Billings, MT, Brian Rudig and his children Jackson & Samuel of Tampa, FL, Amy (Dave) Kern-Standfield of Springfield, MO, Daniel Kern of Springfield, MO, and Laura (Jeff) Cole and their children Bryan, Andrew, Tyler and Jonathan of Republic, MO. She rejoins in Heaven her parents; husband Dean; brother Myron Kelch.
Per Martha's wishes, there will be no public services and a private inurnment will take place at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, 1307 W. Ridgeway Ave., Waterloo, Iowa 50701 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
