Marjorie “Marge” Ann Brown Colton, 78, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Marge was born on December 27, 1947, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Edward Brown Sr. and Mary Pressler Brown. On September 10, 1966, she married the love of her life, Paul Colton, in Waterloo. Together, they were blessed with a beautiful family and two devoted sons. She was also loving caretaker to her sister-in-law, Mary Jean Colton, throughout her life. Marge loved her many pets throughout the years, including most recently beloved pups Rusty and Chewie.
Marge dedicated many years of hard work to the housekeeping department at St. Francis Hospital (now MercyOne) until her retirement. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waterloo.
Marge was a remarkably caring, down-to-earth woman of deep faith who found joy in life’s simplest pleasures. Unmoved by material things or frills, she loved being with family and friends. Family was her greatest treasure. In her younger years, Marge cherished summer weekends spent with loved ones at the family cabin on Lake Delhi, as well as the lively monthly “Coffee Club” gatherings with her mother, Mary, her Aunt Grace, and her cousins. Marge shared a uniquely close bond with her Aunt Annie, who also served as her Godmother. She loved decorating the Colton home to bring festive joy to everyone who visited.
In her later years, Marge found comfort in the nostalgia of classic television shows like Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven, as well as crime dramas, game shows, and Hallmark movies. Above all, she truly lived for the visits and company of her dear family and friends.
Marge is survived by her sons: Don (Stephanie) Colton and Ron (Jennifer) Colton, both of Waterloo; her cherished grandchildren: Samuel and Abigail, both of Waterloo; her sisters: Alice Scott of Waterloo, and Mary (Wes) Richardson of Bend, Oregon; and her best friend Sam Fulks. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Colton; her brothers: Edward Brown Jr., Floyd Brown, and Harvey Brown; and her sister-in-law, Mary Jean Colton.
Funeral services for Marge will be Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 am at Locke on 4th St, 1519 W 4th St., in Waterloo with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 5-7 pm, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions should be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society.
