Mariellyn Sue Bowser

Mariellyn Sue Bowser, 74, of Waterloo, passed away surrounded by her family at her home on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Mariellyn was born on July 22, 1951, in Waterloo, to Ellsworth L. and Marian C. (Love) Erickson. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1969 and went on to earn a certificate from Gates Business College. She married David P. Bowser on April 22, 1972, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death on December 11, 2021.

Mariellyn dedicated much of her life to her family and community. A talented baton twirler, she performed during her high school years at Waterloo West and later shared her passion by teaching baton to many students. She greatly enjoyed coaching and mentoring her twirlers as they competed in NBTA and USTA contests throughout the Midwest. Professionally, Mariellyn worked in administrative and clerical roles, where she was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and she took great pride in solving problems for her customers. Above all, she cherished being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She found great joy in spending time with her family, hearing stories about the exploits of her grandchildren, and even learning how to text later in life. Mariellyn will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering love for those closest to her.

She is also preceded in death by her parents.

Mariellyn is survived by her sons, Chris (Jaimie) Bowser of Linn, MO, and Dan Bowser of Reinbeck; brother, Virgil (Jeanne) Erickson of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren, Annaliese, Emerson, Caleb, Abby, Gracie, and Maisie.

The Bowser Family will host a Celebration of Life for both Dave and Mariellyn in Spring 2026. Inurnment to take place at Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date.
