Marian Ruth Kimm Paulsen

Marian Ruth Kimm Paulsen, 94, of Waterloo, went to her forever home on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, while a patient at Allen Hospital. She was born on December 3, 1927, the daughter of Porter and Esther Schaffer Kimm, in Blairstown, IA. Marian worked at various jobs over her life but seemed to settle as the office manager of the UNI Credit Union. She married Leonard Paulsen on September 18, 1946, and the couple was blessed with three children.

Marian loved life to the fullest. She was a hard worker who was always willing to help others, partially because of having survived the depression and World War II. That past also influenced her hobby of shopping and lived the saying "shop until you drop." In fact, she once told Leonard she couldn't possibly be out of money because she still had checks. She enjoyed sewing and quilting; baking, especially apple pies; and going dancing every Saturday night. An ambitious and honest woman, Marian appreciated what she had and having her family around her.

Marian is survived by her children, James (Patricia) Paulsen, Carolyn (Robert) Peterson and Kim (Craig) Buttshaw, all of Waterloo; grandchildren Renae (Robert) McFadden of Merkel, TX, Jason (Stacey) Paulsen of Cedar Falls, Gretchen Peterson of Dike, IA, Jennifer (Frank) Heubner of Gilbert, IA, Ryan (Mary) Peterson of Dunkerton, IA, Kurt Peterson of Dunkerton, Carey (Josh) Rubino of Ankeny, IA and Dana (April) Boggess of Waterloo; 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Brent Boggess, great-granddaughter Jenna Reeves and six siblings.

Funeral service for Marian will be Monday, October 3, 2022, at Locke on 4th Street, 1519 W. 4th Street, Waterloo, at 1:00 PM. The family will greet friends for an hour prior to the service. As a show of sympathy, memorials should be directed to the family.
