Marian Marie Nelson

Marian Novotny Nelson, age 95, died July 31, 2020 at Court of Palmaire in Pompeno Beach, FL of natural causes. She was born June 3, 1925, the daughter of Louis and Emma (Kalinay) Novotny.

Marian married James Nelson, May 9, 1953. They had one son, Donald who died in 2018 at the age of 59. She worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo for 38 years, retiring in 1981. She then moved to Florida in 1991.

She loved her many birds and cats, especially her cat Christopher. She also loved doing crafts, flowers, going out to lunch, playing bingo, Canasta and other card games with the girls at the condo by the pool, taking care of rose gardens at the nursing home, dancing, music, cooking, and putting puzzles together. She also enjoyed spending time with her family when they would come down to visit her. They would go shopping, dining out, and play Skip Bo until the late night. She also made beaded calendars for everyone for the past 25 years.

Marian is survived by her cat Christopher; sister in law, Joyce Ruisch of Leawood, KS; 34 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; special friends Carmella Dee and her daughter, Barbara Dee.

Preceded by her husband Jim; son Donald; parents; three brothers, Sylvester, Paul, and Leo; three sisters, Blanch Novotny, Cecilia Sieck, and Charlotte Beecher; and several nieces and nephews.
