Lowell W. Cheney, Sr., age 89, of Millersburg and formerly of Waterloo, died on October 19, 2016 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born on August 9, 1927, in Millersburg, the son of Wilber G. and Lola (Baack) Cheney.

He married Rhoda Schults in Waterloo, they were later divorced.

Lowell worked as a truck driver for Standard Forwarding in Waterloo, retiring in 1990. Lowell served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS Post #31, American Legion Becker Chapman Post# 138, and the Waterloo Eagles Club.

Survivors include: two sons, Lowell Cheney, Jr. of Waterloo, and Glen Cheney; four daughters, Stephanie, Kari Jo, Louise, and Lynette; a stepson, James Hurley of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Brenda Hurley of Waterloo; two grandsons; a sister, Kathleen Cheney of Tolono, IL; and a brother, Merrill (Sue) Cheney of Washington, Iowa.
