Lorrie A. Folken, 48, of Waterloo, formerly of Waverly, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center, of cancer. She was born on February 11, 1966 in Charles City, daughter of Dewitt and Barbara Logan Hansen. Lorrie graduated with a Nursing Degree from Hawkeye Community College, she also received her license from LaJames International College of Cosmetology.

She married Gerry Johnson, and they later divorced. She then married Daniel Folken, and they later divorced. Lorrie co-owned and operated D and L used furniture and then worked at East Side Used Furniture.

Lorrie was a woman known by many. She had a way of making a friend everywhere she went, never one to run anywhere “quick” when she would be stopped to chat at every turn. She had a way of brightening life with her smile, and could make anyone laugh-her famous snort laugh was infectious, and when she sang people listened. Music was a huge part of who she was. It’s a difficult task to name only one song that pops into your mind when you think of her. She loved singing, whether it was karaoke, starting her own band, or turning up the radio in the car.

She cherished many things, but her children were always kept closest to her heart. She could never brag enough about her kids. Lorrie was an animal lover. One fur baby, Obe, wasn’t enough. She and her fiancé, Les, also rescued Barkley, Adrianna, and Cleo and also had their bird, Shelton.

She was many things-the life of the party, bold and true to herself. She had a wild, free spirit. A wonderful cook. Loved fiancé. A proud mother. Daughter, sister, friend. Crafty. Never afraid to speak her mind. She is the holder of many memories, and with that she will live on forever.

She is survived by: her fiancé, Les Campbell of Waterloo; a daughter, Mellisa (Donald) Folken Lewis of Waterloo; a son, Jeremiah Johnson of Waterloo; a daughter, Amanda Johnson of Waterloo; her mother, Barbara Jones of Charles City; a brother, Bob (Mary) Jones of Wisconsin; a sister, Shelly Jones of Honnewell, MO; a brother, Scott (Ruth) Hansen of Steamboat Rock; a brother, Jimmy (Laurie) Russell of Iowa City; a grandmother, Doris Greenzweig of Des Moines; and a grand-daughter, Kenzington Lewis; along with many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dewitt Hansen; her dad, Forrest Jones; and a daughter, Katie.
