Leon H. Small

Leon Small, 92, of Cedar Falls, passed to his heavenly dwelling Wednesday at the Western Home, Martin Suites. He was surrounded by his wife Marlys of 73 years and his family. Leon was born June 24, 1932, to Harold and Averil (Casteel) Small in Bloomfield, Iowa. He grew up in Hudson, where he met his wife Marlys (Bixby). They were married on November 3, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Leon became known for his automotive prowess in the local racing community and in automobile repair and sales. He became an ownership partner with Keith Motor Company in Hudson prior to opening his own dealership, Countryside Ford-Mercury in Grundy Center. He received the Master Sales Counselor Award from Ford Motor Company for his sales leadership.

After retiring, Leon and Marlys lived in Kentucky for 20 years. While there he led the Car Ministry for Northeast Christian Church in Louisville. Leon amazed those he encountered with his knowledge of vehicles both old and new. He left a legacy of having taken in over 800 donated vehicles with most being refurbished and re-donated to individuals in need.

Leon loved his wife and family and was committed to their welfare all of his life. He is survived by his wife Marlys. Son, Jerry L. Small of Waterloo. Three daughters: Debby (Steve) Andrews of Center Point, Sherryl (Mike) Sweeney of Vicenza, Italy, and Lori (Steve) Shubert of Waterloo. 4 grandchildren: Kyle (Missy) Andrews, Brandon Andrews, Alexandra (Joe) Brady and Jessica (Adam) Wiggins. 6 great grandchildren including Mila and Keely Andrews.

Preceding him in death was son, Larry and siblings Beulah Bride, Louise Arter, and LaRue Small.

Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park

Celebration of Life will be: 11:00am Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park.

Family inurnment will be in the Hudson Cemetery at a later date.
