Larry D. DeMaris, 76 of Dike, died Friday, January 5, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born November 25, 1947, son of Clifford and Edith Ellison DeMaris. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1965.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and served in Vietnam. He retired after 20 years from military service as a Master Sergeant.
He married Lourdes Domawa on December 3, 1991 in San Fernando, Philippines.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, archery, and marksmanship. He was always willing to share his knowledge with youth or anyone else interested in learning.
Larry loved photography. He collected cameras, constantly refined techniques, and shared this passion with others. He was always behind the camera ensuring family memories were captured.
He was a proud Veteran and continued public service after his time in the military. He supported Scouting programs, Veteran Support Organizations, and ensured his fellow citizens exercise their right to vote as a Polling Place volunteer.
He was a loving grandfather. He frequently attended sporting events, school programs, and numerous other extracurricular activities. He shared in their passions and hobbies, learning as much he could about the topics they were interested in.
Larry is survived by his wife, Lourdes DeMaris of Dike; son Cliff (Amanda) DeMaris of Huxley; daughter Mary (Brandon) DeMaris of Dunkerton; five grandchildren: Brianne, Riley-Ann, Lonna, Dante, and Finley; and three siblings, Jerry (Chong) DeMaris, Kathy (Wally) Wynkoop and Craig (Tam) DeMaris; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Shapiro.
