Kimberly Diane Newby was born September 4,1982 in Waterloo, Iowa to Michael W. Weber and Janice (Nelson) Weber. She was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo on October 3, 1982, and confirmed there on May 12, 1997. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 2001. Kim graduated from the College of Hair Design in Waterloo and became a licensed hairdresser/barber. In 2005 she opened GoodLookin Salon, presently located on State Street in Cedar Falls. She and Christopher John Newby were united in marriage at Grace Lutheran on September 5, 2009.
Kim was involved in the Team Pink effort to fight breast cancer, the annual Tim Peterson Memorial Ride, planning for Denver School's Mother/Son Dances, and GoodLookin Salon's sponsorship of Breakfast With Santa celebrations. In 2021 she was honored to be named among the Cedar Valley 20 Under 40 Community Leaders.
Kim enjoyed going out with family and a myriad of friends, attending school sporting events for her two sons, and spending time with her husband, sons and friends at their camper on the Mississippi River near Wyalusing State Park, Wi.
Kim peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, surrounded by family and friends, at Allen Hospital on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the age of 41, after a lengthy battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Fred/Vera Nelson, Ralph/Rose Weber all of Marshalltown, Iowa, an aunt Mary Peisen of Cedar Falls, an uncle James Nelson and aunt Joyce Birks both of Waterloo.
Kim is survived by her husband Chris Newby, sons Cavin and Corbin, and her parents Mike & Jan Weber, all of Denver, Iowa. Also her sisters, nieces & nephews: Karen (Joe) Bobst (David, Alison, Mara & Adelaide Bobst), Katelind (Fred Meine) Clarke (Jared Minser, Michael, Stella & Hannah Jo Clarke), Colleen (Erik) Nelson (Delia & Isabelle Nelson). In addition, Kim's 3 "Besties" Jessie Beaumont Marquand, Gina Queen Brandenburg and Nicole Langan Ernst join in mourning her passing.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1024 W. 8th St., Waterloo. Visitation is at 10 AM before the service at 11 AM. A luncheon will follow in the Hillmer Center at the church. Inurnment is at 2 PM at the Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
In lieu of flowers, plants or gifts, memorials may be directed to the family.
