John S. Steven Christensen

John S. Christensen, 63, of Janesville, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born September 1, 1959, in Waterloo, the son of Donald Leroy and Joan Pieper Christensen. He attended Columbus High School.

He married Linda Strain in 1978; they later divorced. He married Diane Corcoran on November 1, 2008, in Cedar Falls.

He spent 27 years working for the Illinois Central Railroad, beginning in 1978. He commenced his retirement in 2005 and enjoyed the respite it brought.

He enjoyed listening to and playing music, notably Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and others. He also had an extensive guitar collection. John passed his love of music on to his children and enjoyed traveling to watch them perform. He also had a love for watching the Chicago Bears and was with them through thick and thin.

Left to cherish his memories include his wife, Diane of Janesville; two sons, Jason (Julia) Christensen of Marion and Jack (Melanie) Christensen of Traer; two daughters, Sue Christensen and Sarah (Dan) Sandberg, both of Ames; and six sisters, Barb, Sue, Judy, Donna, Mary, and Connie. John had many beloved grandchildren, step-children, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Frances Christensen in infancy and Jean Christensen Becker; and brothers, Donald Paul Christensen in infancy and Jim Christensen.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. with a brief prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at Locke on 4th, 1519 W. 4th St., Waterloo, Iowa 50702.
