Private graveside services will be held in the Westview Cemetery, La Porte City.
Friends and family gathering will be 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 30, 2026, with a meal at 12:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
John D. Hager, 74, of La Porte City, passed away June 20, 2026, at Mercy Hospice in Hiawatha. He was born June 12, 1952, in La Porte City, the son of John A. and Margaret E. “Peg” Fisher. He graduated from La Porte City High School in 1970.
John married Jean M. Clark on June 15, 1973, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City.
He worked at John Deere for 31 years and later at Spence Fertilizer. John had a lifelong passion for the outdoors, enjoying fox, coyote, bear, and deer hunting, walleye fishing with buddies, and flying as a pilot. He will be remembered for his quick wit, strength, and deep love of his family, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Hager of La Porte City; his daughter, Amanda “Mandy” (Shane) Olsen of Mound, MN; son, John “Cody” Hager of La Porte City; grandchildren, Seamus and Sloan Olsen, Remmi, John “Calvin,” and Ripley Hager; sister, Debbie Wells of Marion; and two brothers, Steve (Teresa) Hager of La Porte City and Bill (Jackie) Hager of Parkersburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Hager; his grandson, Brendhen Olsen; and his brother-in-law, Steve Wells.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for donations to local organizations.

John was a good friend,drank a many of beers with him over the years,and we rode together to Deeres lots of years,dont know how many….I know he was good man and i shall miss him…God bless you John…
